Cat 6 Connector

Cat 6 Connector

Ethernet cables can be connected using several types of connectors that are available today. These modular connectors are used for the connection that leads to a socket or wall outlet. There are different kinds of connectors are available for various types of Ethernet cables such as Cat 6 Ethernet cables, Cat 5e data cables, fiber optic cables and twisted pair cables. The Cat 6 connector, which is used as a connector for Cat 6 Ethernet cables, for instance, itself comes two different types.

The first type of the Cat 6 connector is called EZ. The EZ Cat 6 modular connector, which actually stands for an abbreviation of "easy", is meant for the purpose of easy termination. It utilizes a PCB design that helps in easy and quick installation, at the same time eliminating the need for split pairs.

On the other hand, the second type of the Cat 6 connector, called the HD Cat 6 modular connector ( HD stands for High density), is more suited for connections requiring higher performance. This connector is very much ideal for high density system installations because of its characteristic design that allows reduced spacing between ports. This implies that an even larger amount of data can be transferred. It is because of the extensive amount of data that can be transferred that this type of Cat 6 modular connector is called HD Cat 6 modular connector.

When used as a patch cable, the Cat-6 Ethernet cable is normally connected to a 8P8C connector. This connector is also called the RJ45 electronic connector. However because the high density and extra features of the Cat6, it is sometimes possible that cables are too large. Consequently, it becomes difficult to be connected to an 8P8C connector without some extra modular piece.

It has been shown that the manufacture of Category 6 cables requires a greater degree of care. This is because a category 6 cable requires a more electrically balanced circuit, and the degree of the electronic balance is dependent on the manufacturing process. Consequently, this means that category 6 connector should also possess a balanced circuit design. Thus we could finally say that the manufacturing of the cat 6 connector requires a greater precision than other connectors.

For producing this so called balance in transmission, voltages of opposite polarity (but equal strength) are placed on each conductor of a pair. The principle here is very similar to that of twisted pair cables. The opposing electromagnetic fields of each of the conductor pair thus cancel out each other so that the differential voltage is negligible or zero.
